Clean Air Month May 2010
How do you maintain air quality in your community?
Each year in May, the Central Florida Clean Air Team celebrates Clean Air Month. Through a series of events in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties, the Team encourages people to do thier part to maintain air quality in our community.
Share the Ride
Did you know that cars pollute the air more than any other source? Instead of driving in the car alone to work or to run errands, give LYNX a try. Some Clean Air Team members did and learned a few lessons on the way. To watch their journey click here or on the photo below.
LYNX not only offers bus service throughout Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties, but also vanpool and carpool programs. Using LYNX can allow you to relax and read a book or listen to your favorite music while someone else does the driving. To learn more about LYNX's services or to find your route, visit golynx.com.
Care for Your Car
Keep your car tuned up, keep tires properly inflated and aligned and keep the oil clean.A great service to help keep your car maintained is the fuel induction system cleaning. The service helps to clean and lubricate fuel injectors. Having this service performed on your engine once a year or every 12,000 miles promotes a smoother idle, restores lost power, and keeps your fuel system operating at peak efficiency. It will also improve your mileage and help reduce emissions. Visit a local Shell Rapid Lube or Mobil 1 Lube Express to learn more about the service and other ways to care for your car. To find one near you, visit selubes.com.
Bike, Skate, Jog or Walk
Biking is no longer just a recreational activity. More and more Central Floridians are using their bikes to run errands, and even get to work. During the month of May, Clean Air Team members participated in a pilot bicycling course tentatively named Cycling Savvy. The course teaches individuals the rules of road as it relates to cycling. Features of the course include:
- Riding in bike lanes and the road, versus sidewalks
- Obeying the same traffic laws and rules as you would when driving a vehicle
- Making yourself visible at all times to drivers
Until the course becomes available to the general public, you can find out more information about bicycling in Central Florida by visiting www.bikeorlando.org and www.commuteorlando.com.

Student Clean Air Awards
Throughout the month of May, the Clean Air Team will be presenting Student Clean Air Awards.
Each year, the Clean Air Team presents Student Clean Air Awards to students in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties. Student projects are judged during their local county science fairs and winners are selected based on their projects relation to clean air.
Local Government Outreach
Throughout the month of May, clean air messages and information will be made available through our the local government access channels Orange TV, and SGTV. Viewers will be encouraged to visit www.cleanairteam.org to learn more about ways they can help maintain air quality in their communities. Additionally, Ms. Lenora Spence will be featured on the May episode of Kissimmee FYI, which airs on the Osceola County government access channel, Access Osceola.
