Growth
Central Florida is unique. Unlike most regions, there is no one defined center of Central Florida. Instead, its residents are scattered throughout not only the three county region METROPLAN ORLANDO encompasses (Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties), but are instead scattered through seven counties--Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Brevard, Lake, Polk and Volusia Counties.
As more and more people move into Central Florida, the region is becoming even further distributed. If development continues on its current path, growth will not be sustainable. The roads will become completely clogged with traffic, the air quality will worsen, land will become overly developed and environmental resources will be depleted.
Because of this immense growth, Central Florida has become the first region in the State to receive a grant for a new growth visioning project. The goal of the Central Florida Regional Growth Visioning Project is to form a community vision and reach consensus on how Central Florida should grow over the next 50 years.
Myregion.org, a regional development program (of which METROPLAN ORLANDO is a partner) that brings together business, government and civic leaders throughout the seven county region to ensure Central Florida's future sucess, is leading the project.
A series of meetings will be held throughout the region to gain participation and feedback on the question How Shall We Grow? These Community Input Sessions are divided in two parts. Click here for dates and locations.
