Public Involvement for the 2030 Plan

MetroPlan Orlando's public involvement program for the 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan included a comprehensive, innovative approach with a focus on widespread, diverse outreach using extensive visualization and electronic publication.  We talked to thousands of Central Floridians over a two-year period.

The final Public Involvement Report contains outcomes from the public involvement process during the development of the 2030 LRTP. The report also contains the 2030 LRTP Public Involvement Plan.

Community Conversations

Community Conversations 1

A program called Community Conversations served as the core of public outreach. Participants at over 60 sessions learned about the planning process and provided input on how transportation options should be prioritized using an interactive game called Connect I-4.

The game included two rounds. The first round required players to make decisions based solely on their knowledge of the planning process. Following a brief transportation presentation, players were asked to prioritize again. Game results indicate that Central Floridians believe a future transportation system should include travel options. More specifically, they think the region needs a better mass transit system, including both bus and rail.

Transportation Plan Cam

In an effort to tap into the YouTube phenomenon, we launched a unique concept called the Transportation Plan Cam. Using a home video camera and a microphone, staff members hit the streets to ask Central Floridians a variety of transportation-related questions - allowing us to gauge the transportation pulse of the community.  View the video below to see a sampling of what your neighbors had to say about our future transportation needs.

Public Hearing

To conclude the public involvement process, a public hearing was held at LYNX Central Station.  More than 100 people from the three-county area participated in the hearing.  Additionally, 100 surveys were collected during an outreach event preceding the public hearing in the LYNX central bus terminal - an event created to give people with challenging work schedules an opportunity to provide public input.  Click here to view a summary of the public hearing.
