MetroPlan Orlando maintains a crash database for the Central Florida area.  Members of the media can obtain statistics for specific intersections by submitting requests to Cynthia Lambert, public information manager (clambert@metroplanorlando.com or 407-481-5672 x320).

Crash Facts for Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties - 2010

  • One traffic death occurred on average every 44 hours
  • 55 persons were injured in crashes per day - about 2.3 injuries every hour
  • In year 2010, one out of every 90 people in the region was injured in a crash
  • 62 traffic crashes occurred per day - about 2.6 crashes every hour (long-form crashes)

Pedestrian Crash Facts - 2010

  • Regionally, pedestrian crashes represented three percent of the total reported traffic crashes. However, they accounted for nearly 30 percent of all traffic crash deaths.
  • Statewide Comparison: 57 out of the 499 (11.4 percent) pedestrian fatalities occurred in the three-county area.

Bicyclist Crash Facts - 2010

  • There were 413 bicyclist crashes in the MetroPlan Orlando region in 2010, representing 1.8 percent of all traffic crashes and 3.5 percent of all traffic crash deaths.
  • Statewide Comparison: seven out of the 76 (9 percent) bicyclist fatalities occurred in the MetroPlan Orlando region.

Regional Snapshot

Overall, both the crash rate (crashes per million miles traveled) and crash fatality rate (fatalities per 100 million miles traveled) have been steadily declining since 2004.
