Community Outreach Specialist

MetroPlan Orlando is the metropolitan planning organization for Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties. Our organization provides the forum for local elected officials, their staff and industry experts to work together to improve transportation options for Central Floridians. 

We are seeking a community outreach specialist to assist in developing and coordinating all phases of our comprehensive community outreach program.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the organization's website and social media outlets.

  • Assist in the development of short and long range public involvement program to ensure a high level of public participation and awareness of the region's transportation planning program.

  • Assist in implementation of organization’s Public Involvement Plan, including documentation of effectiveness measures.

  • Assist with media relations for the organization, including writing and distributing press releases and fact sheets.

  • Oversee the organization’s speakers bureau, including research and outreach to targeted groups, ensuring broad and diverse speaking opportunities and outreach events.

  • Oversee youth outreach program targeting area schools and organizations in the three-county area.

  • Assist with the design, printing, and production of reports, technical products, collateral, and PowerPoint presentations to ensure that material meets all MetroPlan Orlando graphic standards.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Public Information Manager.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, journalism or related field
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively process and communicate complex concepts in an understandable manner
  • Mastery of AP style
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Professional demeanor
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and PhotoShop
  • A valid driver’s license and availability of an automobile
    Flexibility to work occasional weekend and evening events

Desired Skills

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
